SCOPE OF WORKS

  • Comprehensive on-site risk assessment and confined space equipment setup.
  • Safe disconnection and removal of the existing pump set.
  • Installation of a temporary Ultraflow UAHPD1500 grinder submersible pump to maintain system functionality during works.
  • Supply and installation of two new RD 511 close-coupled pump motors and two Ultraflow UMGN1000 grinder sump pumps.
  • Guide rail systems installed with stainless steel chains and cast iron fittings for reliable pump access and servicing.
  • Installation of a high-spec Ultraflow premium quad pump control panel with advanced features including SMS fault reporting, changeover logic, HMI display, dome light/buzzer alarms, and scheduled pump testing.
  • Installation of float switches for high-level and pump control operations.
  • Installation of a 10m 75mm pressure-rated pump-out line with camlock connection.
  • Full pump-out and cleaning of existing sewer tanks.

CHALLENGES

This project required working in confined space conditions within live sewer infrastructure, presenting inherent safety and environmental risks. Delivering the works at a functioning school site added another layer of complexity due to student safety, limited access, and scheduling constraints.

JetBlack Plumbers also had to coordinate temporary sewer system functionality while the new permanent systems were installed and commissioned.

OUR SOLUTION

We implemented a phased delivery approach starting with the installation of a temporary pump to maintain functionality. All team members were trained and equipped for confined space entry and a detailed risk management plan was developed prior to work commencing.

Our team ensured minimal disruption by sequencing tasks efficiently and completing critical works outside of school hours. The installation of a robust and intelligent control system ensures future faults are rapidly identified and managed via SMS notifications and onsite alarms, improving long-term reliability and service response.

THE RESULTS

Jetblack Plumbers delivered a full system upgrade to a high standard of safety, quality, and technical performance.
Project outcomes:

  • Increased reliability and performance of the sewer system.
  • Modernised control with remote alerts and fault management.
  • Zero safety incidents and no disruption to school operations.
  • Improved maintainability through guide rails and accessible control interfaces.
